“If you don’t slow down, I’m going to fall and you’re just going to have to drag me with you.”

Percival slowed his pace. His anger had already simmered, but not quite gone, yet.

Fifteen minutes later, after stepping on deep mud that would surely ruin his boots, they reached the end of the narrow path. The brisk walk didn’t help his foul mood. Compromising position? What the fuck!

Raking his hair with his fingers, he breathed in and out. See, this was one of the many reasons why he didn’t want a girlfriend, wife, or a crush. If anyone could even call what he felt for Addie a crush. He wanted her like crazy and what she just said irritated him to the core. He felt a prick in his chest when she mentioned the super hot guy in her dreams. Now, he fucking wanted to punch James until he couldn’t walk anymore. Fuck, was that a crush?

“You know, you’re like a bear. Adorable and cuddly, but with claws and you could also turn vicious.”

“I’m not vicious.”

“I know, but you could growl me to death.”

Percival’s irritation finally vanished. Man, how could anyone not like Addie. “I’m not growling.”

“Then what do you call that sound coming from deep down your throat?”

“Okay, I’m growling.”

“Are you afraid of heights?”

“What?”

“I asked if you’re afraid of heights.”

“No. Why?”

“Because we have to go down there.” Addie stopped walking, unlaced their fingers and then pointed at the steep drop.

“You’re joking.”

“No. Stop frowning.” She then reached up to smooth Percival’s brows.

Staring at those beguiling eyes, Percival wondered if she knew what she was doing. Was she always like this toward other men? Did she unknowingly encourage JR or James, or those kids in her school to pursue her? When he touched her, she never shied away. In fact, she welcomed it. Addie, he found out, was a very sensual woman. Was she even aware of that?

“You’re frowning again.”

Percival stopped Addie from touching his forehead again. He kissed her palms on purpose and watched her inhale deeply with her mouth open. He could tell just by looking at her eyes that she liked it. Then he kissed her wrists. Again, she didn’t pull away. Instead, she just watched him, though her face turned a beautiful shade of bright pink.

“You shouldn’t do that.”

“You don’t want me to kiss you like this?”

“Yes. I mean, not like that. No, no.” Addie sighed. “I can’t think when you do that.”

Percival laughed at her facial expression. She looked so annoyed and charming at the same time. “Sorry. I won’t do it again.”

“I didn’t say—”

He kissed her palm again just to be contrary.

“Oh, forget it. So, are you afraid of heights?”

“No.” He leaned over to look down at the drop. It was a good twenty feet high. Below were rocks and shrubs that would surely hurt anyone who landed on them. A few feet past that was the sandy spot and the blue lagoon. Smooth rocks were scattered around the water. To the left of it were more rocks that overhung above waterfalls.
